The group Maureen Choi Quartet was born in September 2012 with the arrival of the violinist to Spain, where he combines his musical activity with teaching at the prestigious Berklee College of Music -Valencia- and Escuela de Musica Creativa - Madrid.
Maureen Choi Quartet is much more than jazz and Latin music, their live show is an exciting journey through Spanish and Latin American folklore, with the violin as the main voice and with jazz, improvisation, and the delicacy of classical music as vehicles of expression.
His travelling companions on this great musical adventure are: Daniel Gracia, jazz pianist and musical director of the successful “Hoy no me puedo levantar” (Today I can’t get up); Mario Carrillo, double bass player and arranger from Madrid who trained in the United States; and Michael Olivera, Cuban drummer, a regular on the Madrid jazz scene.
Since its creation, this quartet has played at festivals such as the XXIX Madrid Jazz Festival, the Talavera Jazz Festival 2014, the "Ellas Crean" Festival 2013, the CLAZZ Berlanga Continental Latin Jazz and in the most important jazz clubs in the capital such as Café Central, Bogui Jazz, Café Populart, Sala BarCo or Sala Clamores.
In July 2013, he won 1st Prize in the 1st International Competition for Young Jazz Musicians “Ciudad de Talavera”.
His first musical work, "Round trip", in which great figures such as Pepe Rivero or Javier Colina, perfectly captures the originality of his proposal, and has been received with great critical acclaim.
He currently has three musical albums and national and international tours.
